A big thank you to all the volunteers, community groups, schools and Litter Free Dorset who supported CPRE's Green Clean in Dorset - 12 Litter Picks were held in total.
Key stats from CPRE’s Green Clean, which took place right across England, include:
- A quarter (23%) of glass bottles collected were over the 750ml size limit, the current upper limit for the ‘on the go’ DRS being pushed by key industries;
- More than one quarter (28%) of plastic bottles found littering the countryside were larger than the common 500ml bottle size and could be excluded from the scheme being pushed by key industry stakeholders; and
- 10,000 drinks containers were collected during the month-long litter pick, including cans, plastic bottles of all sizes and glass bottles.
Additionally, more than 1 in 10 drinks containers collected were glass, a figure that does not include the shattered pieces of glass volunteers were unable to count. A summary of the totals collected in Dorset can be found as a separate document available to download at the end of this page.
Join your local CPRE's Green Clean this September 2019
Litter doesn’t belong in our countryside. It harms nature and prevents us from enjoying the green spaces that enrich all our lives. This September, we’re cleaning it up - but we’ll need your help. Last year, CPRE’s Green Cleaners collected hundreds of bags of litter and over 11,000 bottles and cans and improved their local countryside for the everyone’s benefit. With your help, we can go bigger and better this year.
27th & 28th September Swanage Landers Part of Litter-Free Purbeck, will meet at 9.15am and 1.45pm on Friday 27th September & Saturday 28th September at the Main Beach Car Park, Victoria Avenue, BH19 1PW.
Thank you to all the Community Groups who are supporting CPRE's Green Clean. We will continue to add more dates as they become available. We are also encouraging schools to get involved too.

Fancy getting involved?
• Or doing a quick litter pick before work or whilst walking the dog?
• Have you ever considered #plogging (picking up litter as you jog)?
Last year Frank and his team from Litter Free Purbeck did a quarterly litter pick along the A351 (Wareham to Swanage 8.5 miles) beginning of 17th September and recorded a video showing what they collected and recorded the data for CPRE's #GreenClean.
