Monthly Planning Group Meeting 2024

We discuss the Dorset Council and BCP Local Plans and planning related matters. The next meeting is on Wednesday 24th January 2024, 10 - 11.30 am.  The meeting is open to Dorset CPRE members. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. Countryside Forum Meeting 2024 - Fridays

Four meeting dates:  2nd February, 17th May, 6th September and 1st November.

Four meeting dates: 17th February, 12th May, 29th September and 8th December.
 
Annual Branch AGM 18th November 2023, 11am, at Cerne Abbas Village Hall. Our guest was Roger Mortlock, new CEO at National CPRE.  
 
 
Summer event: 12th July 2024, Garden Party in North Dorset. Details to be sent with our spring magazine in May 2024.
 
Farm visit: Visit to Hollis Mead Farm, Hooke, 6th September 2023. 
 

2023 Induction Day with National CPRE for new volunteers

Our online induction sessions are a great opportunity to find out about CPRE's history, vision and strategy, and to learn about the support National CPRE teams can offer.

Six dates in 2023:

Tuesday 7th February from 10am-12 noon
Wednesday 19th April from 5-7pm
Thursday 15th June from 2-4pm
Tuesday 8th August from 5-7pm
Thursday 12th October from 10am-12 noon
Tuesday 12th December from 5-7pm

National CPRE also organise training sessions for volunteers to strengthen knowledge of the planning system.
 
Star Count 2023
Took place between Friday 17th to Friday 24th February 2023. The Star Count 2023 results were published in April. 
 
The Sherborne and District Society
 
2023 Committee Meetings: Generally every other month starting in February. Next date 7th November, 4.30pm.
 
Social: 2024 date to be confirmed.

AGM: 10th November 2023, 6pm for 6.30pm start, in Digby Memorial Hall, Digby Road, Sherborne. Wine and soft drinks will be served from 6pm. Read more.
 
The Friends Of Sherborne House have organised a talk by Duncan Wilson, CEO Historic England, entitled "Historic England and the challenges facing our Heritage", on 21st April at The Digby Memorial Hall, 6:30 for 7:00 pm. Tickets at £10.00 will be available on the door or from Winstone's, 8 Cheap Street, Sherborne. Duncan is the son of Sir Anthony Wilson, who held several officer positions in the Sherborne and District Society and was our President at his death in 2012.
 
North Dorset Group
Committee Meetings 2023: 6.30pm start and in-person, 27th February, 3rd July and 13th November.
 

AGM: 28th March 2023 North Dorset AGM, 5.30pm, at Clayesmore School. Guest speaker was Elaine Spencer-White who gave a talk about Bere Marsh Farm and the work of the Countryside Regeneration Trust.

Guilded Walk, 6th June 2023: Tour around Bere Marsh Farm, Shillingstone. 

Oak Fair, Stock Gaylard  August bank holiday 26th and 27th August
We had a stand at the 2023 fair which has a conservation and country activities bias for those who have not been before. Stock Gaylard Estate is a small traditional country estate just over 4 miles from Sturminster Newton and 8 miles from Sherborne.
 
Purbeck & Poole Group
Committee Meetings:  Next meeting Monday 13th March 2023 at CJ's in Lychett Minster, BH16 6JE.
Open Meeting 9th October 2023, 7pm CJ's in Lychett Minster, BH16 6JE. Members and Guest welcome.
 
West Dorset Group
 
Open meeting held on Wednesday 15th February 2023 at Willowbed Hall, Chickerell, to discuss concerns about the vast solar farm and battery storage proposals. Rupert Hardy, Chair of North Dorset CPRE and David Peacock, our Topic Leader on Renewables, spoke at the meeting.
 

Thorncombe Eco Fair
Attended the 16th February 2023 Eco Fair hosted by the Thorncombe Environment Group. We shared a stand with John Calder Dorset CAN (Climate Action Network) promoting the Great Big Dorset Hedge project, CPRE's farming hedgerow survey and related projects.
