Honorary Treasurer

Dorset CPRE is a registered Charity governed by a constitution. We are in need of a new Treasurer, preferably based in Dorset. The role is home based. Added 28th May 2021.

What will you be doing?

Honorary Treasurer Dorset CPRE

Dorset CPRE is a registered Charity. All financial matters are handled at Branch level by the Treasurer. The Treasurer will be a Trustee of the Charity.

The Treasurer’s Role includes but is not limited to:

  • Keeping accurate records of income and expenditure in line with legal regulations
  • Helping set an annual budget
  • Managing the Charity’s cashflow and the current bank account
  • Paying all incoming invoices and expenses. Handling all cash receipts.
  • Preparing full accounts at the end of each financial year and having them checked by an external examiner.
  • Submitting the final accounts to: Charity Commission and National CPRE
  • Liaising with the Secretary on a regular basis

The role is not arduous and requires perhaps two hour each week in making payments and ensuring reconciliation between the management accounts and the bank account balance.  There is a requirement to attend a Trustees meeting every three months that lasts about two hours. Attending the AGM in November, which includes writing a short report to convey at this meeting. We also hold five Countryside Forum Meetings per year, attendance is voluntary but recommended.

The Treasurer does not need to be an accountant.  They do need to be numerate and must have had previous experience in managing a small account including preparation of final accounts at year end.

They should also be flexible, a good communicator, experienced in electronic banking and spreadsheets.

They should have a commitment to CPRE policies, brand, campaigns, and initiatives.

What are we looking for?

The Treasurer does not need to be an accountant. But does need to be numerate and must have had previous experience in managing a small account including preparation of final accounts at year end. He or she should also be confident to use electronic banking and to deal with a wide range of matters by email.

What difference will you make?

The Treasurer would sit on the board as a Trustee and make decisions for the charity along with 6 other Trustees. Without a Treasurer we would not be able to manage.

What's in it for the volunteer?

Please look at our volunteering section on the Website, there is more detail of what we do in the video Dorset CPRE – Standing up for your countryside.

We want to keep Dorset beautiful, amongst other things we want to stop inappropriate planning, fly tipping, building on greenfield sites and support young people to get on the housing ladder by supporting the right kind of housing in the right areas.
