Dorset CPRE responds to DLUHC consultation on Permitted Development Rights

It has been a busy year for Government consultations, the most recent being on Permitted Development Rights (PDRs). This consultation is on proposed additional flexibilities to support housing delivery, the agricultural sector, businesses high streets, and open prisons; and a call for evidence on nature-based solutions, farm efficiency projects and diversification.

The consultation opened on 24th July and closed on 25th September. Dorset CPRE’s response focused on the proposals contained within:

  1. Agricultural buildings to dwellinghouses
  2. Supporting the agricultural sector through additional flexibilities
  3. Markets – temporary use of Land (Class B of Part 4)

Summary

Dorset CPRE are strongly opposed to the government’s proposed amendments to the General Permitted Development Order to extend permitted development rights relating to the conversion of agricultural buildings. We believe that any applications for change of use of agricultural buildings should be fully assessed by local planning authorities who are best placed to assess the suitability of the building for conversion, the impacts of any proposed use and whether it meets local needs.
