Roads

Canford Bottom Roundabout Wimborne Dorset March 2024
Linda Williams

We promote alternatives to car travel and road-building in local areas, so that we can all get around easily, sustainably and more healthily.

Rather than easing it, new roads can actually generate more traffic and therefore pollution. We promote alternatives to car travel and road-building in rural areas, and support making existing roads greener and investing more in public transport alternatives as well as cycling and walking instead.

In March 2024, Dorset CPRE responded to the Local Transport Plan 2024 survey to help shape travel and transport across Dorset.

Dorset Council and BCP Council are working together on a new joint local transport plan (LTP4). This is an opportunity for the councils to update plans to ensure that Dorset’s transport system meets the expectations of everyone, and to identify the most important issues to prioritise future investment.

Local Transport Plan (LTP) Consultation 2025

In October, we responded to the Dorset Council Local Transport Plan 2025 Consultation online survey. Dorset CPRE supports the vision of a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive transport system but urges Dorset Council to move from aspiration to delivery and accountability. The LTP must commit to firm requirements, measurable targets, and real investment in public, community and active transport options.
